Photo Restoration

As the artist of this piece, what was your main objective?

The main objective was to make the picture look vivid and clean. Therefore to restore it would mean to bring it back to its original state of being, and if there were to be undesired people ( photo-bombers) erase them from the photo.

What tools did we primarily use for this project?

I used the spot healing brush tool to take away light spots on the pictures. for the more stubborn spots I used the patch tool and for the really impossible-to-get-out spots I made my one patch, feathered it and covered the targeted spot. I also used the image adjustments to change the brightness and contrast, saturation, hue, etc.

What were some of the challenges you faced during this project?

There were brown spots on the first picture that were difficult to erase so I had to make my own patches to cover them.

If you worked on more than one photo, how did you approach them differently? Did you have to use different techniques? Was one restoration more challenging than the other? Why?

The first picture was more difficult because it had more dirty spots that covered the face but the second picture just needed an adjustment in the brightness and contrast and a variation of hue and saturation.

The goal of photo restoration is to not “overdo” it. Do you think you succeeded in making your corrections look natural?

I think I made the restoration look natural because the persons in each photo do not look like a cartoon or painting.I also tried to maintain the original color of the photo therefore I did not mess around too much with the brightness and contrast.
